The West Nile virus has been detected in Suffolk for the first time this season, officials say.
According to Suffolk health officials, the mosquito sample was collected in Melville on June 28.
The news comes just as Suffolk prepares to spray pesticides this evening in Ocean Bay Park, Ocean Beach and Seaview on Fire Island.
So far there have been no human cases of West Nile on the Island this season.
