The West Islip school superintendent has written a letter to the community, acknowledging a racist incident involving students from West Islip High School.

The incident happened Friday night, after a basketball game between West Islip and Patchogue-Medford.

“A few of our High School students who attended the event approached the Patchogue-Medford team bus in vehicles and verbally taunted the team, which included some highly inappropriate racial remarks,” wrote West Islip School Superintendent Paul Romanelli.

“All involved students have been identified, and steps have been initiated by the district to hold them accountable for their actions.”

The West Islip School Board will hold a public meeting Thursday night.

It’s unclear if the incident will be discussed at the meeting.
