? A West Islip man is accused of kidnapping a neighbor?s cat and having the animal put to sleep.
Police arrested Richard DeSantis, 56, Saturday. The cat?s owner, Regina Fagone, says she alerted police after checking the Islip Animal Shelter where she found out a cat matching Cole?s description was euthanized. Fagone says she filed a letter to the town attorney to find out who authorized the procedure. The document has DeSantis? signature. Fagone believes that her neighbor also killed two of her cats in 1998, but she did not press charges then.
The DeSantis family declined to comment about the situation. DeSantis faces three misdemeanors and is scheduled to appear in court in June.
