Some Long Islanders say they are having trouble getting supplies to those who need them in Ukraine.
One West Hempstead man says he collected nearly 2,000 pounds of medical supplies and clothing for refugees in Poland and Romania.
When he reached out to the Red Cross, they told him they were at maximum capacity for shipping donations.
"The quest now is can we get somebody to freight it out," says Douglas Rodriguez. "I'm willing to take some of the cost on, pay for some of it myself, but we're lookin for a freight company to fly this out."
News 12 reached out to several groups and elected officials to see if anyone could help.
Sayville Rep. Andrew Garbino applauded Rodriguez for his work.
"My office is working with the Patchogue Medford Library, which is running a supply drive, to find a way to get what's gathered to where it's needed," Garbino says.
