A controversial welcome center in Dix Hills opened today on the Long Island Expressway.
The center, which took only four months to build, used to be a rest stop with no services.
State officials say people who lived nearby opposed the change, fearing it would affect their quality of life.
Transportation officials say they compromised and banned tractor-trailers and built a sound wall.
"There's literature. There's apps you can download. People who can answer questions. There's food you can buy. You're gonna buy food from a place and say I want to visit that farm and I want to go to that winery," says Lt. Gov. Kathleen Hochul.
There are also kiosks inside where you can renew your driver's license.
