The weather and traffic are improving as people head out for holiday celebrations
If you plan to head into the city, remember that the Long Island Rail Road is on a holiday schedule.
Holiday discounts are available, with kids from 5 to 11 riding the LIRR for just $1 through the holidays off-peak and in the evenings.
At the airports, the mad rush to catch holiday flights should be over at LaGuardia or JFK.
There are only about 340 flight cancellations nationwide today, according to FlightAware, many caused by the weather.
A record 99 million people are traveling today, many taking advantage of low gas prices.
The average gas price on the Island is $2.81.
If headed out of state today, rain and snow may create traffic in some areas.
