Weapons charges have been dropped against Kito Lockwood, a football coach at Malverne High School.
Lockwood was charged in a weapons and drug bust, along with 11 others. His lawyer, Fred Brewington, said Lockwood was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Brewington said Lockwood was watching basketball in West Hempstead with people he’d known for a long time, had some drinks and decided to stay over.
He said his client didn’t know there’d be a raid at that home early the next morning.
Lockwood told News 12 he feels “relieved” but “very disgruntled” by the judicial system.
A spokesperson for Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said: “Based upon our continued investigation and information obtained after this defendant was indicted, we now believe that only one single individual had dominion and control over the firearms, that individual not being this defendant. As a result of this newly discovered information, we believe that dismissal is appropriate in the interest of justice.”
Lockwood did not lose his job as football coach, and expressed his gratitude to the Malverne School District, his colleagues and the community. Following his Friday court appearance, he said his first call would be to his mother.
