The cleanup of an Amityville water tower has many Copiague residents concerned about their health and property.
Officials say the water tower on Albany Avenue is being sandblasted so that it can be repainted. However, area residents say the cleaning has left their neighborhoods covered in debris. Residents say a black residue is blanketing their homes and outdoor furniture. Many say they are also concerned about air quality and their children?s health.
The contractor on the job, NUCO Painting Corporation, says some sandblasting abrasive did get out, but that it is not hazardous. NUCO officials say they are continuously monitoring air quality around the site and promised to clean everyone?s property when the project is completed.
