A new water park is coming to Calverton this fall.
Island Water Park is expected to bring 500 jobs to the area and comes after 20 years of starts and stops.
Yvette Aguiar, Riverhead's town supervisor, calls the park a "mini-Disney" and says it will soon be a destination spot.
"There is nothing out on the East End of the United States as large as this. We're looking forward to it and the entire community is excited," she said.
The unique 42.5-acre recreation park will feature an indoor surf pool, a restaurant, a café and family entertainment.
Sports activities will be held on a 12-acre man-made lake.
The park is expected to be open by the late fall and will be open year-round.
