A water main break in Glen Cove has residents concerned about the safety of the drinking water.
The break happened Sunday night on Glen Street and caused many to lose water service. It prompted citywide water pressure issues. Businesses on Glen Street said they were still without water Monday.
Glen Cove City Hall also had to close its doors Monday morning due to the break.
Glen Cove City Department of Public Works Director Lou Saulino says the break occurred at a connection point between a 50-year-old pipe and an 80-year-old pipe. The city posted a notification letter online.
A spokesperson for the city says many residents called City Hall expressing concern about the quality of the drinking water, especially after the recent E.coli contamination in Long Beach's drinking water supply.
Officials say the water is safe to drink. The city expects water service to be restored Monday evening.
