Families across the Hudson Valley now have a new place to cool off this summer at the newly renovated pool at FDR State Park in Yorktown.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul joined park officials, contractors and kids Thursday at the ribbon-cutting.
The pool is the largest in the state park system -- the size of 2 1/2 football fields. It replaces a pool built in the 1960s.
"My kids had asked me if it looked like this before, and I said, 'No, a lot worse than it does now,'" said Westchester County Legislator Vedat Gashi.
Town Supervisor Matt Slater also brought his kids along for a dip in the pool.
"We encourage folks to utilize this great natural asset that we have in the town of Yorktown. And make sure when you come up to Yorktown, you go stop by and support our local businesses," Slater said.
The renovation of the pool at FDR State Park is part of a more than $400 million initiative to improve all state parks by 2024.
