Mourners gathered Friday to remember Monsignor Tom Hartman, the inspirational priest from The God Squad.

The wake for Monsignor Tom, 69, was held at St. Aidan's Church in Williston Park.

The Emmy-award winning priest and author may be best known for teaching religious tolerance with Rabbi Marc Gellman as The God Squad, which they started at News 12 in 1987.

Monsignor Tom died Tuesday after his 16-year battle with Parkinson's disease.

His brother, John Hartman, says Monsignor Tom touched many lives and healed many hearts with his selfless spirit.

"People energized him, they didn't exhaust him...and he made such a difference for so many people," Hartman says.

His funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Aidan's followed by burial at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.

Monsignor Tom became a household named with Rabbi Marc Gellman following the success of the TV show "The God Squad" in the 1980s. As co-hosts of the show, the two brought a message of religious tolerance to millions.
