Two women were severely injured Wednesday when their vehicle smashed into a dump truck.

Suffolk County police say 39-year-old Tanya Fernandez was driving a 2007 Toyota at the time with 37-year-old Laura Thiele as her passenger.

While trying to make a lefthand turn from Patchogue-Mount Sinai Road onto Pine Road, the two vehicles met, police say.

The incident happened in Coram around 3:30 p.m.

Fernandez, of Coram, and Thiele, of Centereach, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for serious physical injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, Matthew Corliss, 35, of Centereach was not hurt.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call 631-854-8652.
