The Town of Riverhead voted unanimously to grant a zoning exemption that allows for construction of a 213-foot cell tower next to the Wading River fire station on North Country Road.
Wading River's fire commissioner tells News 12 that radio service in the area is so bad that first responders often have trouble communicating with one another.
People who live in homes directly adjacent to the proposed site say the tower will look completely out of place in the residential area, and they were hoping officials would consider an alternative site or solution.
