An armed man robbed a Bank of America in West Islip, then forced a cab driver at gunpoint to drive him to a nearby LIRR station, police say.

The robbery occurred Tuesday morning at the Bank of America on Montauk Highway.

Police say the robber demanded cash from two tellers, saying that he was armed with a gun. The tellers turned over an unspecified amount of cash before the suspect fled into a waiting cab.

Police say the driver was threatened with a gun and told to go to the Babylon train station.

The suspect took off in an unknown direction and has not yet been apprehended.

The LIRR says service was temporarily shut down going in and out of the Babylon station during the police investigation.

Authorities say the suspect is a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 50 to 60 years old and has a heavy build.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
