Well, thank you for having me, a supervisor of Brookhaven Town. I've made sure that the town has had a structurally balanced budget AAA bond rating, which it didn't have when I got there. And the state controller just issued a report that said this town of Brookhaven has no fiscal stress or no environmental stress for one of the best records of any town in Suffolk County as supervisor. I've worked to fight suburban blight. I've taken down over 400 zombie homes. And in addition to that, we've tried to prevent over uh overdevelopment. I put together a plan to preserve the common river watershed to preserve over 1000 acres of farmland and an open space and to add 1100 acres to the pine barrens. We're committed in Brookhaven to good quality of life. I want to bring that same leadership to Suffolk County as the Suffolk next county executive. Thank you.

Thank you. I'm running for Suffolk County Executive because I love Suffolk County. I was born here and raised here. Um I've lived on the north shore and the south shore. Now, my wife and I are raising our three kids here. So the future of Suffolk County is personal to me. I believe we need new, new leadership with new experiences and new ideas to face the challenges that we have here in Suffolk County. We've never had a county executive who was a prosecutor. We've never had a county executive who was a business leader and I'm both and so I'm ready to work on fighting crime, creating good paying jobs and cutting taxes. And I've been a leader in Suffolk County government as well and senior leadership roles where I've been a leader on the environment and I've helped uh cut red tape and won a national award for doing so. My opponent's a 40 year career politician. He's uh raised taxes the last eight years and stuff in, in, in Brookhaven. And he's recently uncovered a scandal that news day uncovered at the Brookhaven Town landfill that he was at the heart of. We need new leadership that's unacceptable. I will bring that leadership.

Um, they are misleading and quite frankly they're offensive. Let me be clear about my background. I became a federal prosecutor. I passed up good paying jobs coming out of law school. I became a federal prosecutor because I wanted to fight crime and I did, I held criminals accountable around the country. And here in Suffolk County, I was a, I was a guest instructor at the federal law enforcement Training Center and I helped prosecute one of the 9 11 terrorists, uh al Qaeda terrorists after 9 11. So let me be really clear to the people of Suffolk County. There is nothing more important to me than the safety of your family and mine, the working families party may have had ideas in the past. I don't subscribe to those ideas. They never asked me about that. I said that exactly what I've been saying here to everyone, um, that I support law enforcement, I support uh changes to our bail laws. I support making sure that our law enforcement officers have the tools and training they need as well as filling the vacancies that we have to make sure our law enforcement is strong. We need to also be focusing on school safety and we need to make sure that our school safety officers are, are up to the highest level of training. We need to fight against the drugs that are affecting our community and we'll prosecute those and I will make sure look, bottom line, you want to protect the community, vote for a prosecutor and not a politician.

He knew what he was doing and guess what every law enforcement organization in this county and in Nassau County has endorsed my candidacy. Not one law enforcement agency has endorsed his candidacy because of his views on law enforcement. He is with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and he has made it clear that he would defund the police, that he would accept cashless bail and that he would accept clean slates for felons. I, I'll give you a 32nd of brotherhood because this is one of the key issues we are hearing about from residents out on the street when we talk to folks. Yeah. Bottom line rich is, that's all lies. This is what career politicians do. They just make stuff up about their opponents. It's unacceptable. I have a career. I started my career in law enforcement. I'm proud to have been in law enforcement. I was a federal prosecutor and a state prosecutor. I prosecuted those who are out to harm us and I'll, and I'm and I'm, and I'm proud of that service and the lies that have been portrayed about me are ridiculous. I I support giving judges discretion on bail. I do not support any of the things he said. This working families party did never say that to me. If you're elected Suffolk County executive, will you raise taxes across Suffolk? No, I will not. And let me be more specific. I have proposed a cut to the energy tax, believe it or not, unlike most counties in the state. Suffolk County taxes your LEPA bill taxes, which by the way he raised when he was on the Leper board, he raised the rates 40% higher than the national average. He served on the Leper board. He leaves that off his resume because he knows that people would be pissed off if they knew how much he raised their lipo rates. But our lipo rates our home heating fuel, our propane and natural gas is taxed. That's a tax that I find offensive and falls most heavily on those who least can afford it. So that's the first thing I would take a look at getting rid of because that affects people of limited income. The second thing I would do is for every fi volunteer firefighter at EMT we would do as I have done in Brookhaven offer a 10% property tax for anyone that has served in those fire departments or em or ambulance companies. For more than five years, they get a 10% tax cut. So yes, I'm looking to reduce taxes in meaningful ways for that will affect people in their pocketbook. It's incredible uh that we tax energy in the state, particularly the high li a bill that he gave us when he served on the Leper Board. That is disgraceful. We pay 40% higher than the national average because of votes that this man took when he was on the Leper board.

Mr Cl, I wanna give you the full time here. So lay out your plan to uh either hold the line on taxes or raise them. You can also respond to what you heard. Thank you. I appreciate that. Uh So, first of all, he's just cherry picking the facts. I was a volunteer on the life aboard over a decade ago and the rates went down and they went up and they were over the course of my time there. They overall went down and he's just cherry picking, it bounced around and uh overall went down during the time I was there. Uh When it comes to taxes, he's got a record of raising taxes eight years in a row. The people of Suffolk County have the opportunity to elect for the very first time. Someone from the business community to be county executive. I'm gonna take a close look at the budget, bring that perspective of, of balancing budgets and, and, and keeping an eye on how we can improve our efficiencies. And I'm going to, to be able to, to hold the line on taxes even more than that. I've actually proposed cutting our county General fund property taxes, but, uh, by 10% and he's raised taxes eight years in a row in, in Brookhaven. That's the wrong way way to approach it. I've also won a national award as the chair of the Suffolk County Planning Commission for cutting red tape in Suffolk County. Imagine what I can do as county executive. I'm also gonna lead, by example, by cutting my own pay by 10%. My opponent has raised his pay six times over the last several years. Look, we need to elect someone who understands how to make government more efficient, who's committed to cutting taxes, not raising them, who's committed to, to, to cutting their own pay, not raising their own pay like he's done for himself six times. Um, quite frankly, we need new vision, we need new leadership. We need new backgrounds in Suffolk County and that's what I'm looking forward to bringing.

There was a good plan that was put forward or earlier this year that I supported. I think Dave supported it as well. The problem with that plan is it was too little for sewers and too much for I A systems. We have densely populated areas in this county that need sewers now. So I would favor a plan and I would work with the legislature, unlike Dave who has criticized every Republican member of that legislature, I doubt they'll work with him, should he be elected? But I will work with Democrats and Republicans as News Day clearly pointed out when they endorsed me that I'm someone that's capable of working across party lines to put together a coalition to build support for clean water and for additional sewers in Suffolk County, particularly in areas densely populated throughout this county. And they're also on the east end as well as the west end. We need sewers now to make sure and we need sewers that not only treat wastewater but also treat storm water and recharge our aquifers. I'm concerned not only about the quality of our water but the quantity of our water right now, many of our sewer treatment plants, pump it either out to the ocean or to the sound instead of recharging our aquifer, which is critical to the water supply and the future of Long Island.

Mr Coon, we had asked viewers for questions and comments about these issues. One person called our current system primitive. What would you do to upgrade it? Yeah, there's, I, I agree rich. There's nothing more important than protecting our water, the water that we drink, that's right underneath our feet. The water that surrounds us, which makes us a wonderful place to live and of course, drives our economy, agriculture, tourism. Um I've been a leader on this issue on a regional basis for over a decade. So as I chaired the Planning Commission for County Suffolk County Executive Steve Malone and I launched the reclaim our waters effort about a decade ago. We uh I head up the sewer finance task force for the county. And most recently I headed up the working group that put together the legislation that Mr Roma was just mentioning that would have created a single wastewater district for our, our, our, our county would have made us eligible for getting uh matching grants from the federal government where they have over a trillion dollars of infrastructure dollars available and the state government with over $4 billion. But unfortunately, his running mates in the county legislature refused to let the people of Suffolk County get a vote for it, this November and they refused to put it on the ballot when my, my opponent said he's for it. But when the time came to actually advocate for it, he was silent as my father used to tell me, actions, speak louder than words. And you can't be provi if you're being silent when it comes to a critical issue like water quality, you can't be provi when you are allowing New York City to dump their garbage here in Suffolk County, you can't be pro environment when you are turning a blind eye to allegations that there's toxic ash in the landfill and, and potentially hurting the community, elect me, elect a pro water legislature. We let the people of Suffolk County decide in January on this issue. You.

Let me go back and he mentions we don't take New York City garbage uh in Brookhaven landfill. That was a democratic administration that you forgot for Mr Lesco. You know, I, I wasn't in the town at that time. So guess what? You can invent all the lies that you make. You talk about lies. Uh The other thing that I want to talk about is when we talk about the environment, we had a debate about clean water. It was sponsored by the New York League of Conservation voters at the end of that debate, they endorsed my candidacy because my record on the environment and not Dave, they know when someone's speaking power to the truth and not making up things. Let's talk about the landfill. The landfill is something that was built by the state back in 1974 and turned down over to the town in 1976. Town has run that landfill. We now have a ash for trash. We send our trash, it gets burned at the Covanta plant. Dec Modest Covanta just like they monitor our landfill. If there's toxic air share, then dec did not do their job on monitoring the air that was coming to our landfill, it should be monitored and we rely on the dec. So we are very interested in having it full and I've called for a full investigation of the dec and their monitoring activities there as well as Covanta. All right. Uh Let's move on here.

So, first of all, New York City, Ash is still coming to, to, to Brookhaven. Second of all the, the, it's, it's a, it's the height of hypocrisy here because the whistleblower from inside the company said that they thought there was toxic ash coming and the dec did not do their job, but he knew they didn't do their job. And so he had an opportunity to say we need to investigate this. Instead, he signed a letter written by his campaign contributor, contributors, which was the Ash company asking to dismiss the laws. He didn't want to get to the bottom of it because the campaign contributors asked him not to very quickly. One, I never signed that letter. So he's full of nonsense, which is a lot of what this his campaign is about. Two. I want to see a full investigation of that. We're closing the landfill and we, I put that landfill on a path of closure. The administration wanted to raise the height of that landfill by and keep it open for 10 more years. I said, absolutely not. We're closing that landfill. All right, let's move on

So let me just go back to the last question for a second. So News Day reported that he did sign that letter. So the attorney general decided not to dismiss the lawsuit. Uh And thank goodness for that, that allows us to get to find out what's really happening at the landfill uh instead of ignoring his constituents, which he did. Um So when it comes to migrant crisis, yes, Steve Malone has been clear that Suffolk County is not a sanctuary county. I've been clear that Suffolk County will not be a sanctuary county under my leadership. I empathize with those who are here legally seeking asylum, whether they're from Ukraine or Central America or wherever. But the problem lies with not here in Suffolk County. The problem lies with our failed border policies, the federal government, it, it lies with the border states who are bussing migrants up here and it lies with New York City which has this shelter policy that they can't even fulfill. So I've told the governor in no uncertain terms that Suffolk County is not, didn't cause these problems. We're not the solution to these problems. The solution lies with the Federal government, the states, the border states and New York City, quite frankly rich, we have enough problems providing for our citizens. The social services need to be upgraded and we need to do a better job of actually helping those who are experiencing homelessness here in Suffolk County already.

Mr remain the same question to you. If there is an intensifying of pressure saying, hey, counties across New York State, we need your help. What's your reaction to that? Suffolk County will not be a sanctuary city if I'm county executive at all. And I'm not afraid to criticize the Democratic governor or the Democratic president, which Dave has been reluctant to do. The problem lies with Joe Biden's open border policy. We have tens of thousands of people every week crossing our border. This is where drugs come in. This is where human trafficking takes place. This is where sex trafficking takes place. This is where the enemies of this country can enter this country without being vetted. We need an immigration policy. I support immigration for this country, but we need an intelligent immigration policy that vets people before they come. We have people coming here unvaccinated. We need a policy and this president has failed to do it. The Democratic Party has failed to do it and we need someone to call him out on it and say enough, it isn't working close the border, start vetting the immigrants coming in, start checking what's going on it's breaking the back of the city. And if we accept migrants and then be responsible for, for providing basic social services and educational services, it would hurt us financially and would be to the detriment of our city uh of our county. So I do not want Suffolk County to be a sanctuary county. Mr.

Well, the first thing I worry about is my personal information because it's all out on the dark web because I was a county employee. My social security, all my basic information is out there. When I saw that, I said to myself, what the heck is going on? I run the largest town in this county. We have cybersecurity insurance. I run the largest town in this county and our data, our data is in the cloud. Our data center is in the cloud. The counties is not. We run the largest town in this county and we do periodic penetration tests of our system to determine what our weaknesses are, shut any of our back doors and make sure we keep it secure. The county has not done that. So I'm coming with a mission to do exactly what I've done in Brookhaven to keep Brookhaven safe. And that's what I'm gonna do. Now, he'll mention something about someone putting, posting something on our web page for all of about six hours that is not cybersecurity insurance and you should know that. But you know what I'm prepared to lead on this. I'm prepared to make changes. I'm prepared to keep this county safe and to keep the data, the personal data of the county employees and the county, um, residents safe because it's all been hacked and it's out on the dark web and they should be concerned.

Would you protect the county from the next potential attack? Sure. So rich. I think I have a unique ability here because I would be the first county executive ever to come from the technology sector. I am a co inventor on 19 patents related to internet technology. I've have understanding of technology. I have understanding of cybersecurity. I've run a number of large businesses. We have sensitive health care data which we've protected. So the county needs to do is one unify its siloed system of it into one unified system. We need to then appoint a chief uh cybersecurity officer which the county is moving towards, which is a good thing. Uh Two, we need to back up uh to the cloud and that's important because like all of us have phones, we have our pictures on those. We back up to the cloud because that's the most secure place to do it. We also need to have cyber insurance. That's absolutely correct. Cyber insurance not only protects us if we get, we get attacked and it pays, pays, pays, um helps us pay the bills, but most importantly, it helps us avoid cyber attacks because they will help with training for employees, uh avoiding things like phishing emails that could launch Trojan horse viruses and those kinds of things. So, um I have the background in this. My opponent mentioned that his site was hacked. That's true. Uh They were hacked by the ISIS terrorist group a couple of years ago, the website was, and I think that is a failure and it is an example of, of, of not knowing how to protect your system. I also would note that the county, uh, the county hack came in through the county clerk's office, who was the county clerk when the it systems were set up and configured my opponent. So if you wanna make sure the technology is safe and we can protect against cyberattacks, elect someone who's got a technology background will keep our, our information safe very quickly. 15 years. I was about 17 years ago. He loves to invent things. He's inventing most of his discussion. Uh It's incredible. He claims he's an expert in everything. Whenever we bring up a subject, he's the expert. I've been there. I've been doing it. It's the major reason that News day call me the most effective town supervisor on Long Island and have endorsed me every time I run, including this run for county executive, saying I know government and I know how to get things done. Sure. So obviously, one of the key issues affecting our whole region is making sure we have housing that people can afford. Um This is personal for me. I have three kids and we'd love for them to be able to afford to live here. But we know and talk, I know in talking to people throughout Suffolk County that the inability to have housing for that their kids can afford that that seniors can afford is really ripping families apart. It's also making a put a big strain on our businesses because they don't have the workers that they need because so many people are leaving our region. In this case, you have a very clear choice. You have someone who's been in office for 40 years while this problem has gotten worse and someone who's put together a plan has, has created housing in the not for profit sector and the for profit sector here in Suffolk County and elsewhere. In short, we need a chief housing officer to work for the county to work with the towns and villages to identify the strip malls, the vacant properties and the government properties that could be re redeveloped. Uh And that would be, that would be my plan.

I would also like to see land at our community college develop because we have different parcels of land at our various community colleges where we could build affordable housing for our veterans. We need regional solutions for solid waste, for transportation, for sewer waste, for all the other things that we need. We have to move away from the individual towns and villages. We have to work collectively as towns, villages and the county to move an agenda that we can live with. We need to make this island more affordable. We need to make major transportation improvements on this island. Traffic is congestion is out of control. So there are things that we can do, but we have to work with uh with our towns and villages as well as our county legislature. I know my opponent has criticized the members of our county legislature repeatedly. I believe in bringing people together in their endorsement news. They said I am capable of moving beyond party affiliation and bringing people together and accomplishing things. That's the goal I wanna set. I wanna lead this county. I want to unify this county. I wanna bring the Towns Villages or legislator all together for a common purpose and a common agenda for a better future for Suffolk County. More affordable and definitely safer than it is now because we need to improve public safety in this county immediately, which is why all the public safety organizations in this county has endorsed my candidacy as well as the New York League of Conservation voters. I, I think quite frankly, we need new ideas. We need people who can execute any of those ideas. So the idea of developing around the community college, I've actually done that elsewhere. I propose that here you can go to Suffolk forward dot com and read my proposals on that. His idea about the re uh repurposing uh housing that the county takes. Um The county takes about 20 to 25 houses a year. His idea of repurposing those, it would take about the better part of 1000 years to make a real dent in housing under his plan. He talks about his experience in Brookhaven. That's meant eight years in a row. Your tax is going up. It's means six pay raises for himself. It means bringing that garbage from New York City to Suffolk County. It means ignoring the community when they're asking whether they're being impacted by toxic, toxic ash. It's, it's in Brookhaven, it's roads full of potholes. It's a town animal shelter that where the animals are getting sick. It's, it's a looming fiscal crisis where taxes in Brookhaven and have to go up almost 50% of the next couple of years because of he hasn't planned for it. And Brookhaven is literally the home of red tape in on Long Island. It is unacceptable. We can't bring that kind of mentality to Suffolk County. What matters to me most is not his experience with the experience of the people of, of Suffolk County. They're saying their taxes are too high. They're concerned about crimes, they're plant, they're worried about our water. They, they wanna make sure our small businesses are helped. They want to support our people who are suffering from addiction and mental health. If after 40 years in office, he hasn't solved those problems that you're experiencing. He's part of the problem and we need people with new vision and new ideas. I have a background in law enforcement. I will work to keep us safe. I have a background in the private sector. I can make sure we're creating good paying jobs. I've been uh very s involved in senior levels in Suffolk County government. I've been involved in creating affordable housing both here and elsewhere around the country and I've won a national award for cutting red tape for Suffolk County.
