It’s the time of year when volunteers in Hempstead are working overtime at the Mary Brennan Inn.
The Inn is the Island’s largest soup kitchen, and volunteers want to make sure all Long Island families have a hot meal for Thanksgiving.
Jean Kelly, of the Inn, says anything people plan to serve for the holiday is what is needed at the Inn.
From the pantry filled with donations, volunteers will be making ‘fixing bags’ filled with all the traditional sides, which will be accompanied by frozen turkeys.
Those in need can then take the bags and go home to enjoy a hot meal with their families.
Online donations are also being accepted.
Kelly says about 700 bags and turkeys are handed out each year.
