Dozens of volunteers gathered at Brentwood High School Saturday to help feed Long Islanders in need.

People from the district, including from Southwest Elementary School and the Brentwood Rotary Interact Club, were packing up some 8,000 meals.

Most of the meals will go to the Pronto food pantry to help feed the hungry. About 2,000 meals will stay at the high school for its own food pantry, which provides food to families in need within the district.

It marks the third year of the effort and participants say it feels good to pitch in.

"We have so much that we overlook, and we think that everybody has everything that we have," said volunteer Jennifer Salvador.

Organizers say the meals will be distributed throughout the week.
