Volunteers helped build a wheelchair ramp at the VFW Hall in Port Washington Thursday. 

The volunteer group Rebuilding Together Long Island, with funding supplied by Sears, worked all day on the ramp that the veterans say will help members who are confined to a wheelchair. 

"Now that we are going to be handicapped-accessible, it is going to open the doors to quite a few men who were not able to get here," said veteran John Fiore.

Joe Botkin, who started Rebuilding Together Long Island years ago with his wife, said he is proud and honored to help Long Island veterans.

"We built 327 ramps here on Long Island in the last 25 years," he said.
