Tucked away in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx is a horse lover’s oasis: A year-round, fully operational 21-acre horse stable.
As one of three locations in the tri-state,
Riverdale Stables offers individual lessons, competitive teams, summer camp, and after school programs. Riders can rent a horse or board their own with peace of mind knowing there’s 24/7 security. With four outdoor rings, one indoor ring, two jumping rings, a dressage ring, and a grass field, there’s something for everyone from the first-timer to the more experienced.
President and manager Scott Tarter has decades of experience under his “saddle.”
“People have called us exactly that: [they say] 'This is my horse oasis. This is my spot in the country, here in the city.’” Tarter said. “We have Twin Lakes Farm in Bronxville. Between the three locations, we average about 145 horses.”
As part of the New York City Parks Department, the farm is open to the public to watch a horse show or just sit out on a nice day to enjoy the weather. To book a lesson, visit their website.
