Police once again spent the day scouring the marshy Oak Beach area for the remains of missing New Jersey woman Shannan Gilbert as loved ones plan to hold a vigil to mark the one-year anniversary since remains started to be discovered along Ocean Parkway. It was the search for Gilbert that led police to eventually find 10 sets of human remains, beginning one year ago tomorrow. Families of the victims of the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer are planning to remember their loved ones tomorrow with a vigil and a fundraiser. Flowers have already been placed at the sites where the bodies of four sex workers were found wrapped in burlap last December. Tomorrow, the families will place crosses on the sites and hold a candlelight vigil. Relatives of two of the victims, Megan Waterman and Maureen Barnes, personally thanked members of the Suffolk County Police Department for continuing to hunt for the suspected serial killer. Meanwhile, police used an excavator today to pull away the brush in the marshy area along the coast in Oak Beach. Shannan Gilbert, a Craigslist sex worker, was last seen in the area in May 2010.Last week, police searching in the wetlands found her purse, cell phone, jeans and shoes. They have yet to discover Gilbert's remains, but say they believe she may have drowned in the area.
