A candlelight vigil was held Friday night for two teenaged best friends who were found murdered in Brentwood.
The vigil at Brentwood High School's Fran A. Mauro Stadium comes as police search for the gang they think is behind the killings. The high school band played as friends and family of the girls held balloons, posters and carried signs that read "stop the violence."
Kayla Cuevas, 16, and Nisa Mickens, 15, were found beaten and slashed earlier this week. Police say gang members are likely responsible for their deaths.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini visited the makeshift memorials on Stahley Street before going to the vigil. Both men pledged to find those responsible.
Police are asking the community to help with any information. The reward for information leading to an arrest in the case has been doubled to $10,000.
