A News 12-Hofstra University poll asked viewers what they predict their financial situation will be in the coming year.
Long Island residents were asked, "Do you expect that at this time next year you will be financially better off than now, worse off than now, or the same?"
About 50 percent of responders said they would be roughly the same, while just over 32 percent said they will be better off.
Another 15 percent of people said they predict to be worse off, and 3 percent were undecided.
Financial experts say part of the reason people are feeling so positive about the economy is gas prices. When prices are low, it often means extra money in one's pocket.
