New video from Sunday's house fire in Levittown shows the moments an explosion occurred from inside the garage.
The explosion sent pieces of flaming debris flying as firefighters were responding to the fire on Holmes Street around 2:15 p.m.
"As they were making entry to the front, there was some type of smoke explosion or sometimes we commonly call it, we believe it might have been backdraft," says Nassau County Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro.
Authorities say that an explosion inflicted minor injuries on two Wantagh firefighters after they were knocked to the ground from the impact.
Officials say they were both transported to the hospital. They have been released from the hospital and are expected to be OK.
News 12 is told eight department battled the fire and it took an hour to get it under control.
Investigators say no one was home when the fire started but two cats have yet to be found.
Some neighbors say the fire was so intense that the smoke from it still lingers and even melted some of the siding on their house.
Officials say the fire started in the garage area and spread across the entire attic area of the house.
The Nassau County fire marshal says the fire is deemed nonsuspicious. The exact cause remains under investigation.
