Police have released surveillance video of the vehicle that struck a 50-year-old woman twice in Mott Haven right after she saved a friend's life.
According to authorities, the victim was crossing Bruckner Boulevard and East 138th Street at around 1 p.m. Monday when she was struck by a car making a U-turn at the intersection.
Henry Moldanado was with the victim, who he identifies as Christina Aybar. He says the driver had pulled up next to them, began calling Aybar names and then drove straight at them, prompting her to push him out of the way.
Modanado says Aybar was struck instead of him. He says he watched as the driver backed up and ran over her a second time before fleeing the scene. Aybar is now in critical condition at Lincoln Hospital.
Investigators describe the car as a white sedan, possibly a Chevy Impala, with a dark-colored front passenger quarter panel and bumper. Anyone who recognizes it or has other information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
