Suffolk County police say a feisty LongIsland store clerk refused a gunman's demands for money and insteadchased him out with an ax - and surveillance video caught it all on tape.
The suspect entered the Southhaven Convenience Store shortlyafter 8 p.m. Saturday, wearing a mask and demanding money. Surveillance cameras caught clear images of the suspect, who remains on the loose, as he entered the store, police say.
The clerk - 4-foot-5 Hafize Sahin - retrievedthe ax from under the counter and began swinging it, chasing theman out of the store empty-handed.
Sahin told reporters Tuesday that she thought the gun was afake, which is why she fought back.
As she put it: "I said to myself, 'I'm not giving him money."'
As for whether she could brave defending the store again, Sahin says she's not so sure.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact Suffolk Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
