They served the nation - now they are serving each other.
Island Harvest's Operation Hope program allows veterans to deliver meals to other veterans who are in need of assistance.
Naomi Sawyer served eight years in the Army in a support unit for the 82nd Airborne Division. She says getting involved with Operation Hope helped her with the struggles of returning to civilian life.
"It's a blessing from God, and I hope that more people than myself get the help that they need," says Sawyer.
Sawyer is one of 400 Long Island veterans that receive assistance each year.
Daeshawn McCutcheon, of Operation Hope, and Gregory Moring, of the Walmart Veteran Initiative, say helping fellow soldiers find their way has brought new meaning to their lives.
"It's an honor and a privilege to give back to a fellow veteran that has served our country," Moring says.
