Police are searching for a suspect wanted for allegedly being behind an attempt to scam LIRR ticket vending machines at the Baldwin station.
MTA police released a poster including a photograph of the suspect identified as Vasile Ovidiu Haidau, 35, of Romania.
Police say Ovidiu is a Romanian national who has ties to a credit card/identity theft gang in California.
Officials say a scanning device was discovered last week inside the credit/debit card slot, along with a tiny camera.
The LIRR says it routinely monitors its machines for signs of tampering.
Officials say they have determined that the scammers had not been able to download any of the information picked up by either device. Therefore, officials do not believe that any LIRR customers who used that machine had their information compromised.
Police say Haidau was last seen Monday driving a 2014 Volvo with license plate number GXR5959 headed west on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin.
Detective say Haidau should be considered dangerous. Anyone who spots him should call (516) 222-6501.
