A Valley Stream woman was injured yesterday after jumping from a second-story window to escape a gas explosion at Nyack College.

The 38-year-old woman suffered a compound fracture to her leg. Officials say the injury is serious, but not life-threatening.

The unidentified woman was one of eight people injured in the explosion. Sources say the blast occurred at the Sky Island Lodge located at 177 South Highland Ave. on campus just before noon today. The two-story stone building is home to the college's Academic Success Center.

Authorities say there is a gas leak at the building, but it's unclear if it caused the explosion or if the explosion caused the leak.
