Some of the Navy's tall ships have pulled into port along the Nautical Mile.
The US Naval Academy midshipmen have been making the trip on the high sea from Annapolis, Maryland, to Long Island's South Shore for years, but they are not here just to spend the night.
"The midshipmen are here to learn about themselves, learn about the boat, and learn about the ocean," said John Formisano, of the US Naval Academy.
Freeport Village Mayor Robert Kennedy says the midshipmen will be staying at a village hotel and were given passes to area restaurants. He's inviting people to come to the Nautical Mile to check out the ships.
Ship tours will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
