A letter from the U.S. Attorney says ICE will now limit the holding room at the Central Islip courthouse from seven to two detainees.
ICE will also provide padded mats, clothes and hygiene products.
Last month, the same U.S. Attorney ordered that ICE is not allowed to hold detainees in those rooms for longer than 12 hours.
The changes come in response to allegations from a judge that detainees were being held in 'putrid, cramped' rooms for as long as two days.
