A potentially explosive situation caused Jones Beach to shut down Saturday when unexploded mortars from Friday night's fireworks display washed up on shore.
Officials say more than 100 shells came on shore Saturday morning, causing the beach to close. The Nassau County bomb squad was called in to handle the explosives.
Police didn't want anyone gaining access to the explosives, and wanted to make sure no one took them home.
Jones Beach officials say the beach will reopen Sunday morning.
