A Uniondale man is facing attempted murder charges, accused of firing multiple shots at police officers.
Detectives say the incident began at a traffic stop on Lafayette Avenue in Hempstead just before 1 a.m. Sunday.
During their investigation, detectives say that the passenger, Duane Costa, began to adjust a large object in his waistband.
After they asked him to step out of the car, he allegedly violently shoved an officer and took off on foot dropping a gun.
That's when they say the 37-year-old pulled out another gun and fired multiple shots at the officers.
Costa was located on Meriam Street and taken into custody. No officers were injured during the incident.
Two handguns were recovered.
Costa will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
