The headmaster at St. Martin de Porres Marianist in Uniondale is on leave today after allegations he made a Black student kneel and apologize to a white teacher.
Trisha Paul says her 11-year-old son was sent to headmaster John Holian's office for doing the wrong assignment in class. Paul says that's when Holian told her son to get on his knees and apologize to a teacher.
Paul says Holian confirmed the story saying he had gotten the idea from how a past Nigerian student's father had disciplined his son, calling it the "African way."
"What I am assuming is that because he mentioned the African family I just assumed that because he was Black he had to kneel before the teacher to apologize simply because he was Black," says Paul.
In an email to parents and News 12, the school says, "Saint Martins neither condones nor accepts the actions of our headmaster."
An internal review is now underway.
