Unemployment benefits increasing to $869 per week in New York

Beginning this month, Gov. Kathy Hochul says weekly unemployment benefits are increasing by more than $300.
Currently, the maximum weekly unemployment benefit is $504. That's getting bumped up to a maximum of $869 per week.
"That's $1,500 more a month," Hochul said.
The bump in benefits comes as more Long Islanders are heading to the unemployment line.
As News 12 has reported, new data from the New York State Department of Labor shows the unemployment rate in Nassau and Suffolk rose to 3.8% in August.
The governor says that as part of the 2026 budget, the state invested nearly $7 billion to increase the maximum weekly unemployment benefit.
