(11/09/06) WYANDANCH - The family of a Wyandanch football coach charged with raping an underage girl spoke out Thursday, claiming he is the victim of a hoax.
Wesley Harris held a party at his house for his Youth League football team on Halloween. A girl under 15 who attended the party is now accusing him of a sex crime. Suffolk prosecutors charged Harris, who has worked at the Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center since 1999, with second-degree rape. Patricia Robinson, Harris' mother, defends her son and says the girl made up the charge to garner attention.
If convicted, Harris faces between 2 and one-third to 7 years in prison. Harris is being held at Suffolk County Jail on $50,000 bail.
