TSC New York City Marathon could help businesses bounce back after rough summer

Whisk & Whiskey, a bar and bakery, will be getting in on the fun with its third annual “cheer zone.”

Restaurants along 4th Avenue and Carroll Street have been preparing for months for the TCS New York City Marathon.
“Guys get ready for the marathon you’re not going to be able to sit down," said Chef Coy, co-owner and executive chef at Whisk & Whiskey. "You’re not going to be able to catch your breath. It’s just like nonstop.”
The race, which begins in Staten Island, will make its way through the borough Sunday, with over a million spectators in attendance. Whisk & Whiskey, a bar and bakery, will be getting in on the fun with its third annual “cheer zone.”
“We’ll be doing sign making, also have a grab and go station, with waters, coffees cookies and Bloody Mary's and mimosa specials,” said Chandra Touch, co-owner and general manager of Whisk & Whiskey.
Potential revenue from the marathon comes after a rough summer for restaurants across the city. A new survey released by the NYC hospitality Alliance reports that 72% of restaurants in the city reported declining sales this summer.
“We’re expecting for this to be that little push that we need instead of having to fund or having to ask for more loans,” said Alejandra Dodd, co-owner of Root Hill Cafe.
