The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) has released its 2025 “Trouble in Toyland” report.

Every year, the organization releases its list of toys that could be dangerous to children.

In the past, the biggest dangers with toys were choking hazards and lead.

This year, experts are sounding the alarm over toys that use artificial intelligence.

Experts warn that toys that contain AI chatbots could interact inappropriately with children as they could have little to no parental controls.

They also want parents to be cautious of counterfeit toys. According to NYPRIG, fake Labubu dolls have been confiscated by the thousands this year.

“Toys for kid, they should be safe, they should not be hazardous, there should be no toxins in them. We shouldn’t have to worry about toys having a negative impact on children’s development, especially as they grow older,” said Matthew Paolucci, the NYPIRG project coordinator.

As you begin your online holiday shopping, experts suggest parents read the descriptions carefully and check out any reviews before purchasing.
