20-year-old Andrew Reid raised more than $14,000 for the Ronald McDonald house with his “Misfit Island” Holiday Lights Display.
Every year, Reid rescues broken Christmas decorations and repurposes them for his giant display.
This year he had more than 300,000 lights and had to start decorating in August to finish before the holidays.
“Everyone was blown away, and I'm still blown away,” Reid said. “I didn't think this many people would come out. We had over 33,000 people come out this year.”
“Andrew is a great inspiration, I think, to not just young people, but everyone,” Nick Croce with Ronald McDonald House said. “He's really dedicated, and he's very, very thoughtful in the way he approaches giving back to the community.”
The charity says the money will be going towards building the new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
