Suffolk police are looking for a group of con artists they say used a common scam to rob a Greenlawn woman of her life savings.
Authorities say 21-year-old Gladys Reinoso, from Equador, was approached on a street corner last week by three people who told her they needed money from her to pay taxes on a winning lotto jackpot. They also told her they would split the $340 million with her. Reinoso told police she trusted them because they spoke her language and seemed honest.
The man and two women accompanied Reinoso to a Huntington bank where she withdrew $7,000. Surveillance photos captured the trip. Reinoso handed over the money and the three individuals fled.
Reinoso says she worked seven days a week for three years to save the money she lost. Police are asking anyone with information to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
