Long Islanders at the airport Wednesday were forced to deal with significant delays.American Airlines canceled more than 1,000 flights to inspect the wiring on some of its jets. On Tuesday, the airline canceled about 500 flights.More than one-third of the airline's 2,300 daily flights use MD-80s, which are the planes being inspected. American Airlines also canceled hundreds of flights two weeks ago to inspect the wiring work.Many passengers at LaGuardia Airport Wednesday were frustrated by the cancellations and delays. Some said the airline shouldn't have allowed them to purchase tickets Wednesday knowing there were going to be cancellations. American Airlines has apologized for the situation and has stressed that passenger safety has not been compromised.
