Transit Workers Union President Roger Toussaint, jailed for leading the New York City bus and subway strike last December, was released Friday.
Toussaint began serving his sentence Monday evening and was supposed to serve 10 days for violating the state?s Taylor Law. The Department of Correction determined that he was eligible to have his sentence reduced for good behavior.
The TWU strike came at the height of the holiday shopping season and crippled the commute for millions.
