The Town of Southold is cracking down on limousines and buses near the site of a deadly crash in Cutchogue.

A new traffic signal was installed at the intersection of County Route 48 and Depot Lane. It features blinking yellow lights on one side, and blinking red lights on the other.

The intersection is where four young women were killed after the limo bus they were riding in made a U-turn and was struck by a pickup truck in July.

A sign reading "left turn yield on green" has also been put up next to the lights. The sign means that U-turns are still legal at the intersection, despite calls to prohibit such turns at the crossing.

Residents have been fighting for U-turns to be prohibited there, because they say buses and limos are too big and can't safely turn around without blocking traffic in other lanes. 

Southold town police, Suffolk police and the Suffolk County Taxi and Limousine Commission conducted a checkpoint in the area on Saturday. As a result, one bus was cited for making an illegal U-turn, and two buses and one limo were pulled out of service for safety issues. News 12 is told that 34 violations and nine tickets were issued in total.
