A tractor-trailer driver is facing charges in connection to a crash that injured a police officer and a firefighter on the Long Island Expressway Monday evening.
The crash occurred near Exit 51 in Dix Hills after the tractor-trailer slammed into emergency vehicles responding to a crash.
Police say the incident happened around 11:50 p.m. while officers and fire personnel were tending to the scene. An 18-wheel tractor-trailer struck the rear of a fire engine, which was occupied by several firefighters.
The tractor-trailer then jackknifed and struck a highway patrol car.
A firefighter was transported to Huntington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and a patrol officer and the truck driver were transported to another hospital for minor injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver was issued a summons for failure to move over for stopped emergency vehicles.
