Town of North Hempstead officials removed a park lifeguard from his post this week after discovering he was a level two sex offender.
Doctor Washington, 26, who worked at Manorhaven Park in Port Washington, was hired as a lifeguard four years ago. In 2005, Washington was convicted of sexual misconduct.
Town officials were made aware of his sex offender status 10 days ago. The town said it conducted a background check when Washington was hired.
Town officials said that as a result of this incident they will perform annual criminal checks on all town employees.
Washington formally resigned Tuesday.
