The Town of Hempstead announced today that 15 cooling centers are being opened in an effort to deal with the increasing temperature.

Town Supervisor Kate Murray says the extreme heat can pose health risks, especially to elderly citizens and children.

The cooling centers will be open to anyone from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Wednesday.

The town says it will also be keeping eight pools and seven town beaches open longer until Wednesday.
