The Town of Hempstead board voted unanimously Tuesday to accept reports that clear the way for them to declare eminent domain over the Capri Motor Inn in West Hempstead.
The business was shut down by the Town last August – citing alleged safety violations and criminal activity at the location.
Town officials have discussed an indoor recreational facility at the location, but sources tell News 12 while that remains their preference, no final decision has been made.
The town has not yet seized the property, and still needs to negotiate with the hotel’s ownership about how much the land is worth.
