The Town of Hempstead announced a rain barrel pilot program in five town parks this summer.
The town says barrels will also be available to residents.
According to officials, collecting rainwater is an easy way to conserve water and to save money on each month’s water bill.
“Environmentally, it’s a sound investment. It’s bringing natural water to your lawn using what’s being given to you- almost for free- from mother nature,” said Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin.
Residents have until May 30 to order rain barrels from the town.
