A unique christening took place on the South Shore Monday.
The Town of Hempstead invited good luck for its newly acquired response boat as it geared up to be put into action.
The 25-foot tech vessel came over from the U.S. Coast Guard in Illinois.
The Bay Constable’s new boat is being launched just in time for the holiday weekend.
The vessel would retail for more than $300,000, but the town bought it at a fraction of the cost through a government surplus program.
