Viewers asked News 12 why the roads in Brooklyn are torn up - we got answers.

Roads like Rockaway and Pennsylvania avenues looked unpaved for weeks, with holes and grates to dodge.

A source at the city's Department of Transportation said it's standard milling and paving the department does each year.

The source says Pennsylvania Avenue will likely be completed by early June. Repaving was recently completed on Rockaway Avenue.

Nearby mechanics told News 12 there was an uptick in damaged cars.

"They need to address this repavement. It's taken too long, and a lot of cars are getting damaged," said mechanic Albert Francis.

According to the DOT, roads stay unpaved so utility companies can do work under the road.
